#176: Nov 27 Weeklies

---SSL #19, and WTFotW---

First, the archived broadcast from this Saturday.

The show topics include:

- Pitt meltdown in "Backyard Maul" could lead to Dave Wannestedt's ouster.

- Pirates say goodbye to a long-time player (relatively speaking).

- Pens surging now because of their goalie.

- Steelers still not looking very quality, despite big win vs. Oakland.

- NFL Picks of the Week. Again, the Steeler picks are now 5-6 after covering 7 (and then some vs. Oakland) and POTW 6-5 after the Browns fail to hold a late road lead. Seriously, how many wins can the Jaguars manage with the worst Yards Per Play differential in the league?

Now, to the What the @*#$ of the Week:

Two of the recent WTFs have been centered around women's tennis. Well, apparently, there's another women's sport (and there's a men's division, too) that's off the wall. Or off the shoe.

Meet: Toe Wrestling

I wonder if they could popularize this in the waiting areas of spas or nail salons...

#175: More Weeklies

---SSL #18, and WTFotW---

It's probably more efficient to combine these two elements into one post. Warning: The WTFotW is tennis-related again.

This past week's show topics include:

- Steelers perform complete meltdown vs. Patriots. Who's to blame? The callers come out with some good theories.

- Pens hitting a hot streak, their goaltender is hitting an inconsistent streak, but that's an improvement.

- A quickie re: both Pitt men's programs playing now.

- The weekly Rundown segment.

- NFL Picks of the Week. Entering the week, the Steeler picks are 5-5 after the Steelers failed to win, let alone cover (and because my Baltimore pick in Week 5 was subbing for the Steeler bye) and 6-4 on the Pick of the Week as the Broncos won outright. By a bunch. Posting this one day late, I'll clue you in that the Steeler picks are now 5-6 after covering 7 (and then some vs. Oakland) and POTW 6-5 after the Browns fail to hold a late road lead. Seriously, how many wins can the Jaguars manage with the worst Yards Per Play differential in the league?

Now, to the What the @*#$ of the Week:

My favorite women's tennis player (and current world #1) Caroline Wozniacki played a charity match in Belarus against Victoria Azarenka in the latter's home nation of Belarus to benefit underprivileged children. Even the Belorussian president got in on the act. Wozniacki pulled out all the stops.

Not quite as strange as a couple weeks ago at the WTA Championships, though.

Yeah, she's hot, all right...

#174: Belated Weeklies

---SSL #17, and WTFotW---

I'm combining last week's show and the WTF of the Week into one post. I was off in the Chicago area last week and wasn't able to post.

This week's show topics include:

- Steelers needed every single Cincinnati miscue to pull out a Monday Night Win.

- Fleury did his job vs. Tampa, but his defense made it easier. We need to see it again. And again.

- Big East should lose its automatic berth. It's a sad football conference.

- NFL Picks of the Week. Entering the week, my Steeler picks are 5-4 after the Steelers covered the spread (by 1) against the Bungles (and because my Baltimore pick in Week 5 was subbing for the Steeler bye) and 5-4 on the Pick of the Week as Baltimore took it too the Dolphins.

Now, to the other feature here at the blog (What the @*#$ of the Week), Manny Pacqiao, probably the greatest pound-for-pound boxer the world has ever seen, destroyed Antonio Margarito in a Saturday night bout. Margarito was apparently going for the Rocky special, trying to go the distance with Pacquiao, having his face transformed into ground beef in the process.

Now, it's being said that Margarito's right orbital is broken, and he might not be able to fight again. Margarito did get his wish, though, and went all 12 with his conqueror.

I hope, for his sake, that it was worth it...even though it was obvious that Pacquiao let up in the later rounds.

There is actually a pretty decent-looking guy under that mask...

---Got Swamp Gas?---

Again, I almost thought I wasn't going to get a pic or story in for the What the F*** of the Week. But, I got lucky.

Last week, women's tennis star Kim Clijsters broke the sound barrier with her wicked forehand (or was it backhand?).

Men's tennis raised the bar. Apparently, they play in harsher conditions in Switzerland. Like, in thick swamp gas. Good luck judging the carom...if it doesn't just squish upon impact. And try not to breathe...

Real men don't wear masks...

Seriously...WTF is that in the foreground?

#172: Broadcast #16

---SSL: November 6, 2010---

This week's show topics:

- Steelers loss more a case of fumble-itis and inconsistent play rather than Halloween spooks...but there was probably some karmic comeuppance, too.

- Pens are flat. Fleury is flat. Power play is flat. It's not good.

- Dutch Wydo joins as guest in his first WMBS appearance since the summer.

- NFL Picks of the Week. Entering the week, my Steeler picks are 5-3 after the Steelers loss to the Saints (and because my Baltimore pick in Week 5 was subbing for the Steeler bye) and 4-4 on the Pick of the Week as Mike Shanahan benched Donovan McNabb for friggin REX GROSSMAN to run a 2-minute drill.
